In this class we will talk about the popular television show Avatar: The Last Airbender. We will use this show as a way to improve communication as we form thoughts and ideas into comments and talking points. We will discuss: - the connections that the show has to real life cultures - the parallels to real world philosophy and lifestyles - the four nations that exist within the series - the elements that the nations are based off of: Earth, Fire, Water, and Air We will also take a look at the shows characters and use them as a way to show examples of character creation and development. Students will even have the opportunity to take a fun quiz to determine what element they would bend if they existed within the show.
Learning Goals
Using Avatar: The Last Airbender, students will learn to formulate ideas into commentary about the topic and by doing this, will further develop the critical thinking skill. Students will further develop skills in communication.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I began watching Avatar: The Last Airbender when it premiered in 2005 and have rewatched it multiple times since. I find the series very engaging and the philosophies that are touched on within the show can be applied to many current day events.
