In this ongoing club, we will talk about history. Weekly topics will be chosen based on learner interest and can vary from week to week ranging from Ancient Mesopotamia to present time. Current events may also be covered. Discussion will also be learner-led with the teacher acting as moderator. Learners are encouraged to post topic suggestions to the classroom so the teacher can consider them for discussion. Learners do not necessarily need to have prior knowledge of a topic in order to...
Students will come away from each class with a better understanding and/or new knowledge of a history topic, historical event, or time period.
BA History, Teacher license in grades 5-12 History, working on MEd in Secondary Education. I have taught history for 3 years.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This class is geared toward older learners (ages 13-18) and may go more in-depth on some topics. Slightly younger students who prefer a deeper dive into historical topics are welcome. Due to the sensitive nature of some topics, I will do my best to steer away from truly incendiary discussions. However, some controversy may still come up. Please be aware that I will not tolerate negative or hateful speech in my classroom. My classroom is always a safe space for all students regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, identity, etc. All students are encouraged to participate in discussion via video and/or voice. Please contact me with any concerns or questions. Please note: Since this is a discussion based class, classes with less than 2 learners will be canceled and a refund sent for that week. Notification will be sent prior to cancellation.
