Class Experience

*All gyrls welcome (binary, non-binary, and all of the above)

In this group, girls are encouraged to talk about their hobbies and interests with other girls from different communities and cultures. Do we share the same interests with someone 3,000 miles away? What kind of things can someone do in the city vs. in the country? What kind of music do we love? What kind of books are we reading? What sort of things do we spend our free time doing?
This is a great opportunity to make long-lasting friends from all over, and an opportunity to get to know more than what lies outside our front doors.
All girls are welcome in this ongoing group. This is a very relaxed class. We usually play games or just chat. Generally, we will chitchat for 30 minutes or so, and play a game for the remainder of the class.
As the facilitator of this class, I will be present to make sure everyone is respectful and things are running smoothly. I will also be sure to keep the conversations age-appropriate.
**Every group is very different. I find it helpful to try a few groups to find the best fit.
***Some housekeeping:
This is a safe place for all and is also LGBTQIA+ friendly. Please be respectful to each other

Sometimes, the group likes to play games from a public website. Those include; Scribbl.io and Blooket, and Gartic Phone What are these games? Blooket is a quiz game that can be played as a group. Scribbl.io is a game much like Pictionary. One person draws while the rest guess the answer in the chatbox provided. Gartic Phone- Similar to the old game, Telephone but with drawing and writing When we play Blooket, it can be helpful to have another device handy as it makes playing easier. With the game Scribbl.io, there is usually an ad at the beginning of the game, as it is a free and public game. Some computers are set to ad restriction, and cannot be on this setting in order to play. I am not always sure when and if we will play either of these games in class. But I wanted to be sure to give a heads up if we do.

As an educator and a woman, I know how important it is for girls to be able to comfortably interact with other girls; to have a place where they can freely ask questions, laugh, tell stories, or just hang out with others within their same gender. I also had the opportunity at a young age to interact with others from backgrounds very different than my own. I cherish those memories and friends that I made. It helped open my mind and encouraged me to travel more and get outside of my comfort zone. I have spent many years encouraging togetherness and empowerment among women, young and old, and I am excited to continue this work through Outschool.
