Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 1
Beginner Level
In this one time class, young learners can learn basic photography skills to use with a digital camera. Using toys as photography subjects, students will learn basic photography skills from a photographer. Students will learn how to protect their camera by using a camera strap, it's important to prevent cameras from breaking if accidentally dropped. They will also learn how to take a picture. First learners will be encouraged to find a toy to take a picture of. The teacher will show the learners how to properly focus on a subject and also how to use the shutter button. They will learn it's important to hold the camera still to reduce blur.

The teacher uses an "I do, we do, you do" teaching method. First she demonstrates how to do the new skill. Then students and teacher do the new skill together. Finally, the learners are encouraged to do the new skill on their own while the teacher gives encouragement and/or gentle reminders. The teacher also asks questions and encourages student participation.

Learners are not required to have any required experience or knowledge, but they will need to have a child's digital camera, or a digital camera on a phone to use.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge of how to protect their camera, how to focus on a subject, how to hold still so the photo will not blur, and how to use the shutter button.
