Class Experience

In this 4 week course, students will learn the states, capitals and important facts about the Midwest region of the United States on this exciting road trip. During each class meeting students will learn about 3 states in the Midwest. Students will learn the state, capital and important facts about each state. Some of the important facts that students will learn about will include; what year the state was founded, the state flower/plant, state animal, state motto and other key facts to learn about the states. Students will learn in class by way of a variety of interactive elements including teacher led slide presentations, student discussion questions, student interactive games/activities and review games at the end of each class. 
Week 1: Students will learn about 3 states in the Midwestern (Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska). During this class students will learn the state name, state capital, geographic location on a map and important facts about each of these states. Some of the facts that we will discuss will include the year the state was founded, the state symbols, state mottos etc. At the end of the class, students will have learned about these states and participate in a review game as well as interactive discussion regarding the information taught during the class. 
Week 2: Students will learn about the following Midwestern states (Indiana, Ohio, Michigan). During this class students will learn the state name, state capital, geographic location on a map and important facts about each of these states. Some of the facts that we will discuss will include the year the state was founded, the state symbols, state mottos etc. At the end of the class, students will have learned about these states and their capitals and will participate in a review game as well as interactive discussion regarding the information presented during class. 
Week 3: Students will learn about the following Midwestern states (Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa). During this class students will learn the state name, state capital, geographic location on a map and important facts about each of these states. Some of the facts that we will discuss will include the year the state was founded, the state symbols, state mottos etc. At the end of the class, students will have learned about these states and their capitals and will participate in a review game as well as interactive discussion regarding the information presented during class. 
Week 4: Students will learn about the following Midwestern states (North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota). During this class students will learn the state name, state capital, geographic location on a map and important facts about each of these states. Some of the facts that we will discuss will include the year the state was founded, the state symbols, state mottos etc. At the end of the class, students will have learned about these states and their capitals. Students at the end of this class will participate in a review game that will test their ability to identify the state and capital of the Midwest states on a map.

Supply List
Each week, students will be provided a guided notes page that will need to be printed prior to class to help them follow along with the information that will be learned during class. Students will also need to have a whiteboard and marker each class as we will utilize the whiteboard to share answers as we will play review games at the end of each class.

Hello! My name is Mrs. Emily and I love to teach all types of subjects to enthusiastic learners. My favorite subjects include history, mathematics, reading and cooking. 
I graduated with my Bachelor's degree in Education in 2018 and I have teaching experience for a total of 4 years, 2 of those being a full-time classroom teacher. Along with my teaching certification for students K-6, I am also certified in Special Education K-12 as well as Reading and ESOL endorsements. I believe that the classroom is meant to be a place of encouragement and a safe space where students can develop a lifelong love for learning. Along with being a certified teacher I am also a licensed insurance agent and work for one of the largest insurance companies in the US. I am a proud mom to a sweet little girl and goofy labradoodle.
