55 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this class, we will play Minecraft Java Edition together on a private server as we discuss strategies and share stories and ideas. Content is driven by the learners, and cooperation is highly encouraged. This can include exploring, building projects, battling monsters, and anything else that captures the imagination of the group. If your learner prefers to play on their own during class, that's fine, too! Please send me your child's username in a message after signing up so I can add them to the server. Only currently enrolled students will be allowed in the server for privacy and safety reasons. I will provide the server address in class. We will be discussing many topics related to Minecraft including mining, farming, building, crafting, making potions, fighting, weapons, mobs, biomes, the Nether, and more. Activities and discussions are student led. We will engage in many adventures, projects, and activities based on student interest. Some things we may do include building castles, making farms, using redstone, journeying to the Nether, fighting the Ender dragon, building villages, looking for treasure - whatever students are interested in doing! All experience levels are welcome. RULES: There are basically two rules: 1. Be constructive, not destructive. We all play in the same world, so we don't want it destroyed. 2. No antagonistic play. The server is to be a safe place for all, so no griefing, stealing, attacking without consent, teasing/bullying/trolling, etc. NOTES: - Students are encouraged to take class in a quiet room with headphones. If you have more than one learner, they will need to be in separate rooms or wearing headphones in order to prevent distracting echoes. - If there are any issues with Minecraft servers, I will cancel class and issue a full refund. - If anyone has trouble logging on, I will set aside time to help that student individually. Parents may be asked to help with technical issues as well. - Although I encourage all students to be respectful of each other's goals and projects, I cannot guarantee that buildings and belongings will remain from week to week as many students will be using the server. Please keep valuables in your player inventory or ender chest to maintain their security. -I use a plugin that can help me investigate incidents of griefing and/or stealing. Stolen/destroyed property will be returned/restored and the misbehavior addressed (up to and including removal from the class/server). -Please verify that your version of Minecraft is Java Edition. Java is played on PC or Mac and is not compatible with Bedrock Edition (XBox, PC, Mac) or Pocket Edition (Switch, iPad).

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Erick. I have a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Furman University. I'm an online teacher, a martial arts instructor with black belts in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a business owner, and most recently, an aspiring author. I live at the beach in Florida with my wife (also an Outschool teacher!), our science-loving son, and our cuddly cat.
I believe learning should be fun and engaging and my teaching style definitely reflects that! My goal as a teacher is to inspire, empower, and entertain students while teaching things I'm passionate about - business, finance, martial arts, fitness, and video games. In my classes, be prepared for lots of laughter and silliness in addition to learning.
I hope to see you in the classroom!
