What's included
Class Experience
In this Study Skills Flex Course, we will practise note-taking, how to make a successful revision plan and how to revise. Please note it is a Flex Course and does not have live face-to-face meetings but does have fully interactive tasks and instructional videos in the classroom. What will this course include? Week 1 - Cornell Note-Taking Method Week 2 - Mind Map Note-Taking Method and How to Discuss and Share Our Ideas Week 3 - Outline Note-Taking Method and Presentations Week 4 - Making a Successful Revision Plan and How to Revise Successfully Week 5 - Time Management Week 6 - Research Skills The teacher will upload weekly videos. In the weekly video, the teacher will model how to achieve the aims for the week. I will then provide weekly assignments for students to complete and upload to the classroom. I will also use visuals in my lessons to help accommodate all students. In week 1, learners will learn about the Cornell note-taking with practical tasks which the learners complete and share in the classroom. We will comment on each other's work with a 'feedback sandwich'. In week 2, learners will learn about the Mind Map Note-Taking Method and we will learn various tips and tricks to improve our note-taking skills and will put this into practice. Learners will share which tips they found beneficial to use and provide examples of them in the classroom. In week 3, learners will practise the Outline Note-Taking Method. Learners will put this into practice by preparing presentations and sharing them with other learners. In week 4, learners will make their own revision plan with the teacher's guidance through the pre-recorded video. Learners will share their revision plan and comment on whether they have stuck to it the following week. Learners will also learn how to revise successfully. They will complete a learning styles questionnaires and use this to guide how they best revise. Learners will share their findings in the classroom. In week 5, learners will practise time management. We will analyse how we currently spend our time and look at changes we can make. We will watch a video and make notes on effective time management skills. In week 6, learners will practise research skills. We will analyse sources, ask good questions, and how to go beyond surface. These topics will be the culmination of our course and we will demonstrate everything we have learnt through a final project. Each week, learners will be required to: โComplete various interactive tasks both through printable and online activities to achieve the objectives in the class. โComment on learner's work in the classroom. โAsk a question about the topic to another learner in the classroom. โRespond to Quiz-type questions in the classroom. A flex course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with their peers by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom. Participation will include the Introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher. Participation in assignments allows students to practise and reinforce learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of Mondays and Tuesdays. All materials are posted in the classroom by the end of Monday (UK time) each week. Learners are expected to interact in the classroom each week on the various posts in the required ways and complete the necessary tasks by Sunday each week. This is important as educational research shows that consistent interaction and feedback is necessary in order to create a quality learning experience. I want to ensure that students are given a rich learning experience, and not left to learn content on their own. The videos will be available for the length of the course. Please donโt hesitate to contact me with further questions. I look forward to being part of your learning journey!
