What's included
4 live meetings
4 in-class hoursHomework
1 hour per week. I will provide homework after each class, to be done for the benefit of the learner. Homework will be catered to reinforce what each class is focused on, and provide additional resources for learners to engage with.Assessment
I will provide feedback on homework assignments. The homework is not intended to overwhelm the learner, but encourage further learning to "own" the material and learn it thoroughly.Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
Beginner - Intermediate Level
Let's Start Engineering is a course designed to give interested learners more information about engineering (with career readiness as well)! We will be looking at a broad overview of the types of engineering, diving deeper into some crucial concepts that fundamentally make-up engineering, and lastly, wrap-up the class with a final project. As for teaching style, each class will allow for questions, flexibility for Q&A in the midst of the teaching time, and first-hand knowledge from me, a full-time engineer. The class will run presentation style, primarily using Microsoft Power-point. My brand of teaching incorporates a lot of humor, since I think learning is far more enjoyable when you're laughing too. I care about learners understanding the material, and making it useful and interesting. I want to hopefully open the eyes of learners to the realities of how the world works and stir their creative genius! I am open to messaging, discussion, follow-up classes, and the like! Bring a huge pile of questions! I will collect feedback and may be able to do further topics and/or deeper dives, into engineering if that is desired.
Learning Goals

Other Details
Pre-Requisites
Learners will greatly benefit from a basic understanding of pre-algebra and algebra, but is not required.
Supply List
Several classes utilize common household objects and craft supplies. A full required supply list is provided in each week's post. Note that materials are not provided for this class.
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a full-time mechanical engineer in the hydroelectric industry. I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, and a master's degree in engineering management. I will refer to this experience as-needed to help add clarity and credibility to the lessons.
