1-2 hours per week. Homework will be assigned after every class. The homework is optional but I highly recommend doing it to improve and set up good bases. I will provided feedback in every submitted assignment.Class Experience
In this class I want to focus on speaking with you! We will focus on elements of Spanish that are often difficult for native English speakers, such as the difference between 'ser' and 'estar', conjugating irregular and regular verbs in the present tense, reflexive verbs, verbs like 'gustar', possessive pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, future, and much more. My goal is to make you use these complex language structures and vocabulary comfortably as you speak. We'll do so by speaking, reading, asking questions, playing games, and, of course, studying grammar and vocabulary. Even though, this is a beginner class, previous knowledge of Spanish is required. The students should know how to introduce themselves in Spanish, ask basic questions, know the subject pronouns, numbers to 20 (at least), colors, some animals, and ability to have a basic conversation asking about name, age, etc. My goal is to make you feel comfortable speaking and using everything you have learned. Sometimes, we don't realize how much we know until we start using it. So, please join me for this beginner advanced Spanish class. If you have any questions about the class, please feel free to contact me. Please Note: *This is a conversational foreign language class. While participation is not required it is a necessary element for student success. Please keep that in mind when enrolling. *All classes will begin on time as long as there is at least one learner in the classroom. If 10 minutes after start time there are no students in the class the teacher will exit the classroom. This class cannot be taught with no students, so no recordings will be available for classes with zero attendance. *Classes usually run from September to mid/end of June.
Learning Goals
This class will provide you with the required knowledge to be able to effectively communicate in Spanish. We will target important topics, such as ordering in restaurants, going shopping, opening a bank account, etc.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Parents!
This will be a fun way for your children to practice the skills they have learned through all those many years of hard work. Please, let me know if you have any questions!
Supply List
The class will use a shared word document that I create and send to the students. I use this word document to share the readings, questions, and exercises with which we will work. This saves time by permitting us to engage and share notes in real time, as well as enabling the students to keep the materials at the end of the class (as a pdf file that I attach to the Outschool classroom at the end of every class).
External Resources
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Teacher expertise and credentials
2 Degrees
Doctoral Degree in Science from Wright State University, Dayton, OH
Bachelor's Degree in Science from Universidad Complutense Madrid, Spain
I am a Spanish native speaker, but I have also had to master another language. So, I understand how difficult it is to improve your language skills past certain levels. Through my years teaching Spanish and learning other languages, I have developed several useful tools to help you improve quickly.
