Class Experience

Advanced Level
I want to practice speaking in Spanish with you! My goal is to help you improve your skills through conversations!

In my experience, students often focus too much on grammar and vocabulary in class and very little time speaking. In real life, your language skills will be as good as you can speak and read. In this class, students will speak as much as possible. Be ready to read short texts, answer questions, defend a random opinion on a topic, and so much more! We will review and practice useful grammar, vocabulary, and phrases, as well. I will also review any specific elements with which you are struggling. I will assign voluntary homework that you can send back to me for comments. But, more than anything, if you sign up for this class, make sure you are ready to converse!

The class will be for advanced speakers. You should be familiar with verbs conjugation in the present tense, and the existence of gender for nouns, adjectives, and articles. At this level you should also be familiar with the present, past tense, and future. This is an advanced class and there will be a lot of focus on learning some more complicated tenses such as subjunctive, past perfect, and imperative.

During this class we will focus on learning to speak in the future and past, and so much more. For example, we will also learn to use conditional sentences and I will introduce the use of other tenses, such subjunctive and imperative.

Week breakdown for the first 4 weeks:
Week of September 4th: Talk in the past
Week of September 11th: Other past tenses (Indefinite and Imperfect)
Week of September 18th: Talk in the future
Week of September 25th: Use of imperative in commercials.

New topics will be included each week (from September to June).

Please Note:
*Each class will cover and independent topic that will not required knowledge from the previous classes. However, as learners continue to take lessons they will gain confidence speaking and learn grammar and vocabulary.

*This is a foreign language class. While participation is not required it is a necessary element for student success. Please keep that in mind when enrolling.

*All class times are approximate. Class length varies based on student progress and number of learners. Sometimes classes run a little over time to give time to every student to complete every activity.

*All classes will begin on time as long as there is at least one learner in the classroom. If 10 minutes after start time there are no students in the class the teacher will exit the classroom. This class cannot be taught with no students, so no recordings will be available for classes with zero attendance.

*This class usually runs from September to June.
Learning Goals
The students will improve their ability to converse in Spanish. They will learn vocabulary and grammar while gaining fluency.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents, This will be a fun way for your kids to practice the skills they have learned through all those many years of hard work. Please, let me know if you have any questions.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
The class will use a shared word document that I create and send to the students after the class. I use this word document to share the readings, questions, and exercises with which we will work. This saves time by permitting us to engage and share notes in real time, as well as enabling the students to keep the materials at the end of the class (as a pdf file that I attach to the Outschool classroom AT THE END of every class).

In my personal experience as a teacher and former student, I have found that language classes don't focus enough on giving the students the opportunity to speak. There is no way you will master a language without putting yourself out there and trying to converse.
I have several years of experience teaching Spanish to people from many different background, ages, and levels. I truly enjoy teaching my students not only to speak Spanish but gain confidence and feel comfortable expressing themselves in a foreign language.
