Class Experience

I want to practice speaking in Spanish with you!

In my experience, students often focus too much on grammar and vocabulary in class and very little time speaking. In real life, your language skills will be as good as you can speak and read. In this class, students will speak as much as possible. Be ready to read short texts, answer questions, defend a random opinion on a topic, and so much more! We will review and practice useful grammar, vocabulary, and phrases, as well. I will also review any specific elements with which you are struggling. I will assign voluntary homework that you can send back to me for comments. But, more than anything, if you sign up for this class, make sure you are ready to converse!

The class will be for any beginner intermediate level Spanish speakers. You should be familiar with verbs conjugation in the present tense (although we will still be working on it), and the existence of gender for nouns, adjectives, and articles. At this level you should also be able to talk about yourself, your family, and personal interests. Don't worry - since this is an intermediate class, we will still cover some of the more difficult aspects of the language for non-native-Spanish speakers.

I will go over verb conjugations for regular and irregular verbs in present tense, present continuous, past participle, reflexive verbs, how to make comparisons, the future tenses, verb like 'gustar', prepositions, and so much more.

Please Note:
*This is a foreign language class. While participation is not required it is a necessary element for student success. Please keep that in mind when enrolling.

*All class times are approximate. Class length varies based on student progress and number of learners. Sometimes classes run a little over time to give time to every student to complete every activity.

*All classes will begin on time as long as there is at least one learner in the classroom. If 10 minutes after start time there are no students in the class the teacher will exit the classroom. This class cannot be taught with no students, so no recordings will be available for classes with zero attendance.

*This class usually runs from September to mid/end of June.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parents, This will be a fun way for your kids to practice the skills they have learned through all those many years of hard work. Please, let me know if you have any questions.
Supply List
The class will use a shared word document that I create and send to the students after the class. I use this word document to share the readings, questions, and exercises with which we will work. This saves time by permitting us to engage and share notes in real time, as well as enabling the students to keep the materials at the end of the class (as a pdf file that I attach to the Outschool classroom at the end of every class).

In my personal experience as a teacher and former student, I have found that language classes don't focus enough on giving the students the opportunity to speak. There is no way you will master a language without putting yourself out there and trying to converse.
I have several years of experience teaching Spanish to people from many different background, ages, and levels. I truly enjoy teaching my students not only to speak Spanish but gain confidence and feel comfortable expressing themselves in a foreign language.
