Beginner Level
In the latest ongoing class in the "Let's Speak French" series, learners will learn to form sentences and use them in basic conversations with each other and the teacher. Each week during one 45 minute lesson students will learn new useful expressions in French and will have many opportunities to speak. We will go slowly and make sure each new word and expression is understood, correctly pronounced, and properly used in context. The small class size of each session ensures individual attention for each learner. New words and expressions will be presented at the beginning of each lesson following a brief review of the previous lesson. Learners will have an opportunity to use expressions and words as we play games, and have conversations during the rest of the class time. Printed materials and/or online games will be provided each week before and after class to help reinforce what is learned in each lesson. This is not a French Immersion class. Instruction is given in French and in English , but learners will be encouraged to speak French as much as they can. Mme. Colleen loves to incorporate songs and humor into her classes to help her learners remember and use what they learn, as well as enjoy the lesson. Her teaching style is calm and patient and she provides lots of positive guidance and reinforcement. Lesson 1 Se Présenter / Introducing Oneself Learners will tell each other their name, their age, and their grade. Lesson 2 J'aime... / I like... Learners will tell each other what sports, foods, colours and animals they like and will ask what the others in the class like or do not like. Lesson 3 Mots Interogatifs / The 5Ws Learners will discover the French questions words and will learn how to use them to ask questions of each other. Lesson 4 Parties d'une Phrase / The Parts of a Sentence Learners will learn the three parts of a basic French sentence ; the determinant, the noun , and the verb. We will play a mad-lib type game to become familiar with theses sentence parts.
Learning Goals
In this ongoing class learners will learn at least three new expressions and several vocabulary words each week. The goal is for learners to build a memory bank of expressions and words and then put them together in order to ask and answer questions.
