This is a great way to learn the basics of singing and note reading! Every week, we will talk about all of the things that are needed to become a great singer, including: - Posture - Breathing - Vocal Warm-Ups - Parts of the voice - Notes and Rests - Basic Music Reading We will begin with a body warm-up, followed by a vocal games which help us understand all the parts of our voice. We will also need a paper and pencil nearby to practice writing musical notes. We will learn to recognize basic notes and their values and combine them into rhythms that we will sing, chant and clap. The Let's Sing class is designed to be fully interactive with body and voice, according to the ability of each student. Students do not need to be able to read fluently, but should feel comfortable independently writing and recreating shapes.
Learning Goals

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi!
I'm Juliet, and I am a professional opera singer, pianist, violist, and multi-linguist. I am passionate about sharing my love of music and languages.
I offer classes that allow children to explore the world through music, both instrumental and vocal, and language right in the comfort of their own home!
I have been a private tutor for over twenty years, working in the classroom with ages five through adult for over eight. I hold a bachelor of music from the University of Michigan and a master of music from Northwestern University, both in the United States. I worked as a teaching-artist for the Lyric Opera of Chicago for seven years, helping students to create their own operas. English is my native language, but I am fluent in Italian, German, French, and Mandarin. I am most recently the author of 'Singing in Mandarin: A Guide to Chinese Lyric Diction and Vocal Repertoire' which teaches other opera singers how to sing in Mandarin. In normal times, I travel the world singing and teaching on three continents.
Every child learns differently, which is why my classes incorporate a combination of listening, seeing, doing, and writing. Together, we build a firm foundation on which all other types of music and language can be learned.
I'm a Mum to a wonderful 11-year-old, love watching movies, cooking, doing yoga, and generally thinking about how best to teach students how to learn new things!
