Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
In this one-time class, students will learn the names of nine dinosaurs and we will practice how to pronounce these tricky dinosaur names. We will begin class by discussing the definition and concept of herbivores vs carnivores. We then read sections from the Dr. Seuss book “Oh Say Can You Say Di-no-saur?”. While reading the story, we will ROAR like dinosaurs and learn fun dinosaur facts about nine different types of dinosaur. Students will be encouraged to interact with the teacher via engaging questioning throughout the book that will reinforce reading comprehension. The teacher will provide an activity sheet for herbivores vs carnivores for students to use during the class, the handout is optional and is provided for kinesthetic learners who benefit from coloring or drawing while learning!  After the story, we will work on dinosaur mask for students to color and wear! Lastly, students are welcome to bring their own dinosaur to class and introduce their dino friend to the rest of the classroom (if they feel comfortable).

Hello! My name is Monica Scala and I am so excited to meet your learner! I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Educational Psychology from Miami University and I currently hold a K-12 Intervention Specialist Teaching License. I have been a teacher for ten years! For seven of those years, I was a Special Education Teacher in a public school, teaching children in high school through kindergarten. The majority of my career, I focused primarily on lower elementary grades. For the past three years I have been teaching virtually and I absolutely love the online classroom!

With my background in Special Education, I have learned that all students learn in different ways. My teaching style is very interactive, I love to teach with movement, hands on activities, songs, and games.

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio with my husband and two children. I am a mother to a 4 year old little boy and a 1 year old daughter. In my free time you will find me outside; I love to hike, visit parks, and check out local farms.

Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have and make sure to follow my profile for upcoming classes. I can’t wait to meet you in my virtual classroom!
