Let's Read! Phonics Practice With Word Families for Beginning Readers

In this ongoing course, we will focus on one word family each week and learn to read words in isolation and in a sentence.

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will orally blend and segment sounds in words.
Students will read words in a specific word family with fluency.
Students will read words in isolation and in context.
I have 6 years of experience as both a General Education and Special Education teacher, working primarily with students in grades K-2 with mild to moderate learning disabilities. I have helped many developing readers build their reading confidence through explicit and systematic phonics instruction and practice.
No homework is assigned for this class. However, an optional short word family reader can be provided after each week's class for additional practice reading and spelling the focus word family.
 1 file available upon enrollment
Students do not need any additional supplies or materials to participate fully in this class. Additional practice worksheets will be provided each week also. OPTIONAL supplies: whiteboard and dry erase marker, letter tiles/magnetic letters, paper and pencil (with eraser)
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learners will be assessed informally throughout each class.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students are encouraged to participate in this lesson through Nearpod, which utilizes interactive activities throughout the instructional material. NO account to create to participate in the lesson, just enter the 5 character code either online via "" or the (free) Nearpod app. This code will be included in the Welcome Message upon enrollment into the class.
All instructional and practice materials are teacher-made.
