US Grade Kindergarten - 1
In this small class, students will enjoy reading interesting stories with the teacher.
 These skills will be covered during the course of the classes:
 ✱vocabulary
✱author's purpose
✱genre studies
✱making connections
✱characters and character traits
✱sequencing
✱problem/solution
✱summarizing
✱questioning
✱plot development
✱cause/effect
✱making predictions 
✱plot (beginning, middle, end)
✱comparing fiction and nonfiction
✱context clues

Using the books of Arnold Lobel, these skills will be taught.  

Week one and two:  Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel   The Guest
                                                                     Strange Bumps
Week three and four:  Owl at Home by Arnold Lobel    Upstairs and Downstairs
                                                                      Owl and the Moon
Week five and six:  Frog and Toad Are Friends      Spring
                                                                       A Lost Button
Week seven and eight:    Frog and Toad Are Friends       A Swim
                                                                       The Letter
Learning Goals
Besides the above academic skills, the students will learn to love reading.  They will enjoy reading aloud and learn to read with expression.  My goal is for them to become better oral readers.  They will learn to dig for information in even a simple story.  I want this class to make reading fun and enjoyable to my students!

As a retired teacher of 33 years, I have taught reading for grades kindergarten, second, third, fourth, fifth, snd sixth in a public classroom.  I feel excited and comfortable to be sharing this knowledge with students.  I truly feel if the student is interested, and will complete the work, this class will make a huge difference in the life of the student!  It just may be a game changer!  Let's get excited about learning and have fun together!
