Class Experience

This SMALL GROUP ( 2 learners maximum) Semi-Private class is an EXCITING next step for learners who know the letters/sounds of the alphabet and are ready to put this knowledge to use & begin to READ!! If your learner needs to learn the letters/sounds of the alphabet I suggest my Ongoing Course "Learn to Read With Phonics! ABC's & Phonemic Awareness - Level 1 (SOR Aligned)

💜💜To be successful in this class your Learner must have a good foundation in the letters/sounds of the Alphabet. We will review the Alphabet each class, both through our focus letter/letters and the Alphabet Song - however there needs to be a solid understanding to move on to CVC words & blending!

💜💜This is a LEVEL 2 FULL PHONICS CURRICULUM!! Your child will not only learn how to blend, segment and read CVC words (Consonant/Vowel/Consonant=CVC, ie: cat/mat/sit/pig etc...), but will also learn vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension and writing! Explicit phonics instruction is an extremely effective way to build and strengthen spelling abilities.💜💜

💜I intentionally keep all my classes SMALL as this allows each child to have ample opportunity to speak, participate & practice new skills learned! I can also offer meaningful and individualized attention to each student and to evaluate progress as needed. SMALL classes are also great for learners who are shy or are not comfortable in large groups. 💜

This SEMI-PRIVATE class will provide explicit and systematic instruction in blending, segmenting, reading & writing CVC words!
Your learner will receive a solid foundation in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary & reading comprehension.
We will progress through the alphabet reviewing sounds in an order that lends itself to blending and reading words right away. We will build CVC words, write words and read these words both in isolation and in context (Decodable Readers).

Each class will consist of:
-Phonemic awareness activities
-Letter/Sound warm-up activities
-New skill introduction
-Practice blending & segmenting (orthographic mapping) words
-Written Dictation
-Decodable Reading
-Comprehension & Vocabulary work

This class (and all my classes) follows Science of Reading (SOR) best practices. Science of Reading is not a specific program or curriculum, but rather an approach comprised of best practices from an immense body of research on how children learn to read. It suggests a systematic and explicit approach to phonics - moving from simple to more complex concepts with lots of review and practice.

Learners are free to join at any time -- each class is stand alone, you will not be behind regardless of when you join (as long as your learner has a solid foundation in letters/sounds as mentioned above). We review all letters and sounds each class regardless of the focus sound! This class does not teach the letters/sounds of the Alphabet, but rather how to blend, segment and READ CVC words💜
