Join me in this one time class as we read together "How to Catch a Monster". This book will have your child laughing throughout in this creative and witty story! We’ll play a monster game and learn to draw our very own monsters together!

In this one time class, students will follow along with a fun and interactive read aloud, "How to Catch a Monster" by Adam Wallace. This book is sure to have your child laughing throughout in this creative and witty story! During our time together, I strive to create a positive and caring environment for all my students all while having fun and learning together. We will get to know each other at the beginning of class, and then jump right into our lesson. I will encourage participation and conversation throughout class, however, the children are also absolutely welcome to participate at their personal comfort level. Here’s what you can expect during our class time: - Introductions and Welcomes - Read book “How to Catch a Monster” together pausing to think and discuss - Identify the story elements (characters, setting, problem, solution) - Play a monster match game together - Directed Drawing of a monster! (using the I Do, You Do method) - Share time – students have the chance to share what their monster looks like! - Compliments and Goodbyes! This book and class time will definitely be silly, fun, and child friendly! No spooks about it!
Learning Goals
Students will improve their listening and comprehension skills as they listen and respond to our read aloud. Students will recall the story elements (character, setting, problem, solution). Students will follow directions during directed drawing.

Hello and welcome to my classroom! I’m Megan Scott and I have my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Tennessee Tech University (Go Eagles!). I am certified to teach grades Pre-K – 4th and have taught for 10 years in the public school classroom. A majority of my time was spent teaching Kindergarten and as the saying goes, “All I really need to know, I learned in Kindergarten.” :) Currently, I am a SAHM to the cutest 3 year old girl and absolutely love being her momma.
I love teaching beginning reading skills (letter name and sounds, phonics, vocabulary, and writing) through play, interactive read alouds, and reader theatres, as they are foundational skills for confident life long readers. I feel so much joy when I see my students light bulbs go off as they become confident readers. Books are also the perfect avenue to tie in other subject areas as well and I strive to bring in those skills as much as possible – creative arts is my favorite!
Reading can be SO much fun, but also scary and intimidating for some learners. In my classroom, I strive to create a positive and caring environment for all my students all while having fun and learning together.
