Class Experience

Hello! I am excited to share this class with your child. In this class, we will talk about being kind. We will read a book titled, "Be Kind" written by Pat Zietlow Miller, illustrated by Jen Hill. I will be reading the book with the written permission of Roaring Brook Press.

We will see images of different students and how they handle a situation when they can choose to be kind or unkind. We will talk about the two main characters and their emotions during this event. We will discuss each page before moving to the next page to ensure each student understands the emotions and actions displayed on each page.

Each child will be able to share their thoughts and ideas throughout our lesson! I believe that children learn best when they take control of their own learning. I will be sure to encourage questions and conversation but also want to create a comfortable, fun learning environment for each student. I completely understand that some children are more shy than others so there will be no pressure to speak or answer questions if they do not want to.

If your child would like to bring their favorite stuffed animal to the class I encourage this! Introducing ourselves and our favorite stuffed animal will be a part of our introductions and beginning conversation.

Once the class has started and I begin reading, I will mute the students. After each page, I will unmute the students and ask them, individually or as a group, a question about what we have read. I will announce this during class so they are aware.

No required experience or knowledge needed for this class.

Supply List
We will be reading the book "Be Kind" by Pat Zietlow Miller and illustrated by Jen Hill. This book is NOT required for this class.

I will be bringing my favorite stuffed animal to class. During our introductions, we can discuss our stuffed animals. This will begin our conversation about how we are all different, like different things, but can still be kind even if someone likes something you may not like or have.

No other supplies needed, however, I know that students all learn differently. If your child learns best by coloring a picture, making a drawing, taking notes then I encourage them to do whatever will make them comfortable.
External Resources

**After over 3 years with Outschool, I will be taking a break starting September 27, 2023 to handle family matters. I appreciate all of the families that have trusted me to be a part of their child's education. I hope to see you soon!**

Hello! My name is Stefanie. I am new to Outschool, but not new to online teaching. I have a degree in Early Childhood Education. I am a mom of 2 children (ages 6 and 5) and live in Ohio. I have been a classroom teacher as an intern, a preschool teacher, a teacher's aide, a substitute teacher. I have been a nanny and taught online to children in China before joining Outschool. I taught them how to speak and write in English. We also explored math, science, social studies, and the culture in America. I have been teaching online for a three years and LOVE it! I have taught over 1,200 classes on Outschool and would love to meet your child!

One of my online students recently asked me, "Why did you want to become a teacher?" This child didn't realize how important this question was to me. I was taken aback because it had been a while since someone asked me WHY. I explained to her that watching someone learn something for the first time, or UNDERSTAND something after attempting to understand it is why I do this. One large goal and part of my classroom management is to allow the students to understand that they should be apart of their learning. I am not only teaching to them, I'm allowing them to be a big part of their education.

I set expectations for myself as a teacher and a person. I want to be accountable for my actions, responsible for my education, to teach with passion detail, and encouragement. My main goal is to display past goals and expectations through achievements. Though we are learning through video, I want to incorporate fine and large motor development opportunities, real-life experiments, and experimental learning. I will provide a loving, respectful, safe, and supportive risk-free environment.

I hope to see your child in my classroom soon! Thank you for taking the time to read this! -Teacher Stefanie
