Whether you've read it a thousand times or are reading it for the first time, a great book is always more fun to read with friends! Let's read a Percy Jackson book together in this four-week class.

Class experience

This class allows students to work on reading fluency and reading comprehension.
Students will practice reading aloud and reading in front of others.
I have been a fan of the Percy Jackson series and have taught many classes related to the book series. I am now combining my love of reading, my love of these books, my experience teaching from the books, and my background in performing arts. (I studied theatre at Mesa Community College and Grand Canyon University, performed in a comedy improv troupe for many years, and have worked as an actor, producer, and director for stage and film.
Each student needs a copy of The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan. The books are available on Amazon for about $10 new as well as through most libraries, and other bookstores. The book must be the novel version. The graphic novel will not work for this class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents should know that this book contains fantasy violence. Heroes are placed in scary situations, threatened, and injured. Characters die, but it is "offstage". In other words, if a character dies in the book, it is not described in detail. Only "This bad thing happened and so-and-so didn't survive." Monsters are killed and turned to dust. There are references to demigods being children born of extramarital relationships between gods and mortals.

PLEASE NOTE:
All students will be required to read aloud in class. Students may request smaller roles if they are not as comfortable reading aloud, but they will need to read at least a few lines out loud in order to participate in class.
We will be reading Percy Jackson and the Olympians; The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan.
