In this one-time class, we will practice converting between metric units of measurement. Before we jump right in, we will review our base units and the place value prefixes in the metric system. Once our brains are ready to learn, we will practice converting between specific measurements (i.e. number of millimeters in 2 liters). We won't simply be converting though...we will break each problem down and use our multiplication/division skills partnered with our place value understanding to model our conversions! Finally, we will take the opportunity to discuss which measurement makes the most 'sense' when communicating a quantity (i.e. would we discuss an elephant's mass in kilograms or milligrams? Why?)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, Families and Learners! I am excited to plan a full range of classes for all ages of learners! I am able to teach classes all the way from phonics to Algebra! Some of my favorite interests are strange history, fantasy fiction, and anything science and math related. In addition to STEM topics, I really love the written language and look forward to developing writing classes!
I am a veteran teacher of 14 years. I have taught 5/6th grade, with the latter half of my career focusing on math at the middle school level. Due to our current climate, I am taking some time away from the traditional classroom to homeschool my little ones while taking the opportunity to teach some of my favorite subjects!
When you have a passion and enjoy working with kids, it shines through, even on a computer screen. Providing a welcoming environment that encourages engagement is what I am all about! I want students to feel empowered and confident when they walk away from time with me, regardless of what topic we are exploring together!
I am the mother of two young sons. While the pandemic has not been easy on anyone, my family has really tried to make as much 'lemonade' as possible. I learned to crochet and teach a 4 year old to read!
