FLEX CLASS - NO LIVE MEETINGS * This is an 8 week course, recorded lesson and activities will be upload each week by Monday at 9:00 AM CST In this flex class students learn how to manage realistic monthly expenses, building an emergency fund and bills, and their choices have long-term impacts on the events they experience through a a simulation program. The objective of the game is to maximize your Credit Score by using your credit card responsibly, increasing your Quality of Life score by spending your money on things that maximize your well-being, and building an Emergency Fund by transferring money to your savings account. Your Game Score will depend on how well you balance all three objectives! Students will start the game as either a college student with a part-time job, or as a full-time professional. Alternatively, your session may be set-up where students start as college students, then they graduate and take on full-time jobs. Students will receive a paycheck every Friday, various fixed and variable expenses, and many unexpected bills and life events along the way. They will also have pop-up lessons that cover basic personal finance topics like, mortgages, opportunity cost or needs vs wants. Each month takes about 20 minutes to complete. And no two students have the same experience; so class discussions can be very insightful when they compare their monthly budgets. ♦ Students Build a Budget to Manage Income & Expenses - Students learn how to manage realistic monthly expenses and bills, and their choices have long-term impacts on the events they experience. ♦ Real-Life Scenarios, with Both Planned & Unexpected Expense - In an ideal world we would stick to our planned budgets. During Covid shutdowns and quarantines I discovered that my students and I loved the online platform. I taught in a one to one school. Every student had a laptop as well as a school hotspot if their family asked for one. I chose not to do the minimum "office hours" as my school required. I felt this did not meet my students' needs. I ran an online classroom during regular school hours as well as recorded the class for those students who were unable to connect with us or needed to hear the lesson more than once. My experience as a principal resulted in greatly improved learning for all students. The gifted students improved as well as those with learning disabilities. I believe in high expectations for all.
