Hi there! I'm Emily! I'm a recent college graduate and LOVE to teach!
I teach classes in the areas of: Music (especially piano), Social/Emotional Awareness, and early childhood concepts!
Outside of Outschool, I own my own business, "Learning with Emily" where I tutor and give piano lessons to students of all ages! In my spare time, I am also a musician where I provide accompaniment and vocals for local churches, weddings, and more! I am located in Pennsylvania, USA. In addition to all of this, I am in my third semester of graduate school, studying School Counseling K-12.
I am very passionate about hands-on, interactive learning. I want to keep my students active and engaged in the learning process, and I want to be sure that each learner's individual needs are met. I believe that it is vital to differentiate instruction to tailor to each individual student's learning needs and goals. My goal is to be an approachable and fun educator while still ensuring that each student is learning what they need to at their specific grade-level. I also believe in incorporating music into instruction, as music stimulates both sides of the brain and can help with areas such as memorization, literacy, counting, motor skills, and keeping students engaged in the lesson. Overall, my philosophy of teaching is to keep things interactive, yet purposeful!
I care very deeply for every student that I teach, as well as their families. I only want the best for everyone, and do my best to go above and beyond for every single learner. To say that I love what I do is an understatement! I truly feel so grateful that I have this opportunity, as it has always been my dream to teach people from all walks of life. Many teachers have had an impact on me throughout my life, and I would love to do the same.
A fun fact about me is that I call myself the "Teacher with the Sneakers"! I do this because of my inability to wear dress shoes due to a medical condition. I've come to love my sneakers and the flare they add to my outfits. Plus, it's so much easier to be interactive and move around when you're comfortable! A professor once told me that I should "own" the tennis-shoe look, so I've now made it part of my teaching personality!
