In this 6 week self-guided course, beginning students will learn the basics of piano playing. We will focus on good technic and theory. Students will have the opportunity to play folk songs and show what they have learned through videos.

Let's play piano! In this group course, beginning students will learn the basics of playing the keyboard. In this beginning course students will play on both the black and white keys. Students will have the opportunity to play some well known folk songs such as "Old MacDonald Had a Farm" and "Bingo." We will learn the middle C hand position in this class. Learners will need a piano or keyboard to complete this course. They will also need to purchase the book "Bastien New Traditions All In One Piano Course" Primer A. It is widely available through music stores or online and costs around $10 USD. Here is the Amazon link for reference. Students will also need a pencil to mark their music. The video presentations in this class will be presented through YouTube. Students will receive a secure YouTube link through the Outschool platform. Students do not need to create an account to use this resource. Students have the option of using the Flipgrid platform to create videos of themselves playing the songs we are learning in the class. Students do not need to create an account to use this resource. They will follow a link to the Flipgrid website to join our class. The other students in the class, as well as the teacher, will be able to see the videos created by the student. Using this resource is optional. Students can also make videos directly into the Outschool classroom.
