Class Experience

In this one-time class, students will learn how to play the chorus of Jingle Bells, a favorite holiday/winter song! Students will participate in class at their own piano or keyboard, and play along as they learn. This class is intended for absolute beginners with no previous piano experience.

Skills that will be taught include:
🎄 Piano finger numbers
🎄 Letter names of the keyboard: C, D, E, F, G
🎄 Counting basic note values in the 4/4 time signature: quarter note, half note, whole note
🎄 Locating the keys for Jingle Bells

Once students have learned and practiced the basic skills above together, we will learn the melody, one small piece at a time. Students will be muted for most of the class so they can play along at their own piano or keyboard without distracting each other, but they will also be encouraged to ask questions and play the song for the class if they would like to. By the end of class, students should be ready to confidently play their new holiday song for friends and family!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi, my name is Mrs. Rebekah, and I teach music & photography!

I have been teaching music to kids in private and group classes for 15+ years. My students have a BLAST learning all about music! I give private piano and harp lessons, but also teach plenty of music theory, music history, and other music-related subjects. I have a B.A. in music, and I'm a professional pianist and harpist, and still love performing on both of my instruments. All of that experience has helped me become a better teacher for my awesome students!

I love helping young students discover music for the first time (occasionally my puppet pals join me to help out!), and I also enjoy giving older students the guidance they need to hone their skills and become the best musician they can possibly be.

With music students of all ages and levels, I focus on 3 things:
• Becoming an expressive musician
• Developing healthy technique
• Learning music theory and reading skills
Having those 3 pieces in place gives young musicians the opportunity to flourish and find their own musical voice!

The other subject I love teaching is photography! As a former professional photographer, I enjoy being able to inspire and equip my creative young students as they begin their own photography journey.

When I am not making or teaching music, you will most likely find me creating yummy food in the kitchen, snapping pictures, or reading a good book.

I look forward to seeing you in class!
