Class Experience

Are you an Animal Crossing fan? Is there no one around you who likes it as much as you do? You've come to the right place! What's even more exciting than sharing your thoughts about a game you love with people who will become your Animal Crossing friends! Students will be able to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons during the discussion time together to show what they've done in their game.

In this social club we'll cover:
- Playing the game together
- Visiting each other's islands (using Nintendo Online)
- Discuss iconic characters in the game, and why we like or dislike them
- Sharing of our favourite tips and tricks (how to landscape in New Horizons and more!)
- Sharing some of the ways we designed our island/town
- Sharing our favourite trivia about the game
- Making new friends!

We start off every class with everyone sharing updates on what is new on their island, or any other accomplishments they would like to share. We also talk about new updates and seasonal changes as well.

The class will be based on what the students like! This is an on-going class for a very seasonal game! This means that we can explore the special features for each event together. In the spring, we can collect flower petals and bamboo to make seasonal items. The focus of the class is playing together. While the teacher will help players who are newer to the game with tips and tricks, it is not a step-by-step instructional class. If there are materials that a learner needs, please let the teacher know and I will share some materials or locate the item for them for the next class.

Learners can be placed into breakout rooms if the class is fuller. This is to help ensure a smoother process when traveling to islands of the other learners.

Please note that Nintendo Online (a separate subscription) is needed to travel to other islands. Without it, learners can chat and play but will not be able to travel to other islands, or use Dream codes. Please ensure that your internet is strong, and for your learners to sit close to the router or have their switch internet in full bars. This is as if one person's internet disconnect, it disconnects everyone in the class. If a learner's internet is affecting the rest of the class, they might be asked to stay on their island.
Learning Goals
By being apart of this social club, your child will be able to enhance their:

- Social skills: Students can create friendships with others who like the same game and have opportunities throughout the class to let their voices be heard.

- Exposure to diversity: The class will consist of conversations with people with different backgrounds. They will also talk about different animals that each person might have in their game.

- Critical thinking skills: Students will be asked to think about how to solve certain in-game challenges, and be able to share them with others.

Parental Guidance
Learners might want to add each other as friends on the Nintendo Switch. This will allow them to chat with one another via the game. Parents might want to ensure their learner has permission to do so prior to the class. I will always remind students to get permission, and learners might check in with parents to see if they have permission during class time.
Supply List

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm a huge fan of Animal Crossing, and have been playing the game since I was a young child when the first one came out! Having played all of the games, I'm able to facilitate the conversation the students might have about the game which ever way it might go.
