Assessment
Throughout the class, learners will be encouraged to share their work to assess their progress and understanding. We will engage in respectful and relaxed conversation and they are always encouraged to ask questions as needed.

Class Experience

We will draw and paint a lively scene from the jungle with a tiger, toucan, tree leaves and flowers! The jungle is full of gorgeous colors, shapes, and lines. After brief introductions and a review of our supplies, we will begin our tropical painting!

We will look at images of the jungle and talk about what we see. We may share some facts about tigers or toucans too!

We will draw our tiger, toucan, and tree leaves with a combination of pencil, crayon, and permanent marker. This will help us achieve an effective technique for our picture. Then we will begin to add watercolors. I will lead artists step-by-step through the entire process and everyone will be able to see it all from my overhead art cam.

There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions and share as we go.

Although everyone will be painting the same subject, it is always exciting to see everyone’s compositions, and how they bring all of the colors and shapes together!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, and chalk pastels. My personal style is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic and this is reflected in my own artwork over the years. I worked with young learners for several years when I was in charge of a volunteer- lead art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. We did many different types of projects and used different media and techniques each month. Sharing these colorful and simple ideas with young artists is exciting and I often learn from them as well as they share their ideas and express themselves in new ways.
