In this lesson, students will learn about shadows through a story time and making their own shadow puppets.
Class experience
This lesson is based on teaching the children about light, dark, and shadows using scientific understanding and terminology. The lesson will start with a story: The King Who Banned the Dark by Emily Haworth-Booth. We will use this book to talk about what darkness and light mean, where light comes from and how shadows are formed. I am qualified to teach this class as I am a qualified primary school teacher in the UK and have taught this class as part of the national curriculum in schools for a class aged 7-8.
1 file available upon enrollmentI will supply the curriculum PowerPoint, and the story. Students will need to have: a piece of paper, some sellotape, a lollystick/pencil that their shadow puppet can be stuck on to, a torch, pencil and scissors.
