Class Experience
Total project supplies are between $6 and $8.50 depending on where you shop and what brands you buy. The costs I've listed below are based on the prices I found at Walmart. -Baked and cooled cupcakes in cupcake liners (cupcake mix and liners: $2 - $3). Learners usually have time to decorate between three to six cupcakes during class. -Can of white ready-made frosting ($1.50) -Bag of white mini marshmallows ($1 - $2) (Regular-sized marshmallows do NOT work for this project.) PARENTS NOTE about Dandies brand marshmallows: After having taught this class multiple times, I've found that while Dandies brand marshmallows can be used, they DO NOT produce quite as good results as regular mini marshmallows. -Colored decorating sugar ($1.50 per color). This is what will give the flowers their color. I used pink and purple sugar for the cupcakes in the photo, but you really need only one color. -A pair of clean scissors to cut the marshmallows -Knife to spread the frosting -Plate to work on -Plate to place finished cupcakes on NOTE: Surprisingly, we do NOT use piping bags for this project, so there is no need for you to bring them!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Hello, parents! I have three important notes: 1) Your child will need to come to class with their cupcakes already baked and cooled, so please help them with that part in advance. You might even want to make the cupcakes the day before. 2) The students will be using scissors to cut the mini marshmallows and will be using a dinner knife to spread the frosting onto the cupcakes. If you have another tool you'd prefer they use to spread the frosting, such as a spatula, please feel free to provide that instead. 3) Full-sized marshmallows don't work for this project. They must be mini marshmallows.
