Join Ms. Summer and other miniature-lovers in this three-week class where we will make a tea set from polymer clay! Ms. Summer will guide everyone, step-by-step, through how to make: A teapot, tea cups and saucers, cream and sugar containers, spoons, forks, knives, snack plates, and snacks to go with them, like brownies, cinnamon rolls, crumpets, croissants, and more! Please refer to the “Learner Supply List” for everything we will need. If you have ANY questions, please reach out to me so I...

Many of my classes here on OutSchool were inspired by a childhood obsession of mine and this one is no exception! I’ve been working with polymer clay since I was seven years old. I love tiny things, so I absolutely love making miniatures! I’m so excited to share my passion for miniatures with your learner(s)!
Nothing too intense, as far as “homework” goes. We should be able to make every piece in class, but learners are more than welcome to make more (for example, if they want more cups for their set) outside of class, too!
ESSENTIALS: · Polymer Clay · Whatever brand you prefer (Sculpey, Fimo, etc.). I use and recommend Sculpey Premo because of its high quality--however, Sculpey Souffle is also high-quality but is softer, so your learner might find it easier to work with. · Colors I Recommend: Whichever colors you’d like for your dishes, silver, tan, brown · Sculpting tools--a basic set is fine; we will use a couple of small/medium dotting tools, a needle tool, and a cutting tool the most. (If you don't have any tools yet, I'd recommend this well-priced set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07VDQ74BB/) · Chalk pastels (or eyeshadow) and a paintbrush (for shading some baked goods) · An old toothbrush (for texturing our baked goods) · Isopropyl Alcohol and Paper Towels (I like to cut mine into (4) squares, to conserve a bit :)) OR Baby Wipes · Adequate working space; possibly a cover for your keyboard--I cover mine because I have to work so close to my laptop. · Cookie sheet, Foil, & an Oven to bake our creations during and after class! OPTIONAL: · Liquid Polymer Clay: Whatever brand you prefer; I use and recommend Translucent Liquid Sculpey (TLS) or Fimo Liquid. (If you’d like to make tea or cream for your cups/containers) · With this, you might also want a piece of wax paper to mix your tea/cream on · Glaze for after baking (I use Sculpey Gloss Glaze for my tea set and Satin Glaze on my baked goods.)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We won’t be using an oven in class, but students might need oversight and help when baking their pieces after class.
