50 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this 2 day class we are going to learn how to hold drum sticks, how to read basic rhythms and how to play along with recorded songs. During each session, we will sing camp songs and do ice breakers so that the learners have a chance to socialize. The ultimate goal of this course is to spark an interest in music in the students and to give them a great social experience to look forward to each day. After taking this class, students will be equipped with the knowledge to continue learning rhythms containing whole notes, half notes, eight-notes and quarter notes on their own. No prior music experience is required, this is a beginner level course designed to spark a greater interest in music. This class is designed for learners who have no experience with music or drumming (but all levels are welcomed as this class will be highly social as well). The class structure will begin with a student-led discussion followed by jumping straight into the ice breaker and then moving on to the core lesson as everyone is ready. Each student will take turns introducing themselves and playing solo and the teacher will provide helpful hints while keeping the discussion primarily student led. The entire class will follow the same structure but the emphasis will be getting to know one another and planning on the first four meetings and on performing and celebrating one another's talents on our final meeting. During our final meeting, we will have a recital! Students will be encouraged to dress up and we will perform for one another. My teaching style is learner centered. If you tell learners all of the concepts, they may learn, but when involved in the process, they retain the concepts forever. My goal is for every learner to feel empowered to learn more on their own, to think more critically about their environments and to gain curiosity to learn more.

Supply List
~A bucket - A 5 gallon bucket is ideal, but any bucket will be fine. These can be found for under $5 at any home improvement store (i.e. Lowes, Home Depot, Wal-Mart). ~Drum Sticks - These can be bought for anywhere between $5-$20 at your local music store or Amazon. I would recommend staying under $10. You can buy an extra pair in case your learner damages their stick but this is not required and does not happen too often.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
