Let's Make Music for Media!
In this 8-week online course, students will use Garageband and iMovie to create music for various media (stand-alone pieces, film scores, narrative films, podcasts, and jingles).
Class experience
In Let's Make Music for Media, students will use Garageband and iMovie to make creative projects. During our online sessions, we will explore examples of pre-existing versions of music partnered with other media and demonstrate technical skills necessary to complete the projects. As for the nature of the class, I will teach how music is used in conjunction with other media (film, podcasts, etc.) for emotional and artistic emphasis. Students will learn how to make their own (and sync pre-existing) music to different types of media. The course relays basic music composition concepts via a software created for beginners and up. Students will also walk away with a more keen awareness of how music is used for emotional effect in various kinds of media.
I have taught a version of this course for college students for many years.
Homework Offered
The creative projects are the homework. It is estimated that there will be three hours of work per week.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
