This is an intermediate cooking class. Learners should be comfortable using the microwave and oven and have basic skills with a knife. Learners will prepare their own monkey bread as they watch a slideshow with video to show them how to complete each step. I will help them with each step and answer any questions that come up! Class will end as learners put their monkey bread in the oven. I will teach them how to identify when their bread is finished and how to invert the pan to release their bread onto a plate. These steps will be performed by learners AFTER class is finished. I will be available for questions or help through the Outschool messaging platform. We will discuss knife and microwave safety as we go throughout our class. **Please supervise your learner as they use the microwave, the oven and a knife.** In this one time class learners will be introduced to the basic cooking skills: * learn food safety - frequent hand washing * discuss the steps in cooking and reading a recipe * how to safely melt butter in the microwave * how to correctly measure ingredients for this recipe (we will measure using teaspoons and cups) * how to be safe when using a knife * how to safely take things out of the oven * the importance of cleaning up Class will begin with learners introducing themselves by sharing their favorite hobby and why they like it. We will look over the recipe and gather all the ingredients and tools we need. We will then make our yummy treat together. Learners will have their own copy of the recipe to print out before class! We will also look it over on the screen together. All steps will be illustrated by slides with video presentation to show students how to perform each action. I am an open and friendly teacher who encourages conversation and discussion during our class. I will try to teach your student how cooking can be a social and happy time.

Supply List
Please make sure your learner has the necessary ingredients and equipment to create this recipe at home. Substitutions often lead to recipes not succeeding and we want new chefs to experience success! Ingredients: - 1/2 cup brown sugar - 1 cup butter - 2 teaspoons cinnamon - 1 cup sugar - (3) 10 oz cans of refrigerated buttermilk biscuit dough (just the basic kind, not the jumbo or flaky variety) Equipment: - Apron (if desired) - 1, 1/2 cup measure - teaspoon measure - microwave safe bowl - mixing bowl - gallon size zip top plastic bag - bundt pan (This is the best option for baking monkey bread to ensure even baking throughout the bread. If no bundt pan is available, please contact me for substitutions.) - cutting board - small knife - whisk - hot pads - rubber scraper

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Miss Morgan and I am so excited to meet your learner! I am passionate about early childhood education and math for all ages! I am a child of a Deaf adult and have taken 2 years of formal ASL instruction. I have a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Utah.
I have 4 years experience teaching ESL online, I find it delightful to meet students from all over the world! I have continued my training and education by receiving my TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificates.
Before I began teaching online, I taught Kindergarten and preschool and volunteered as a reading and math tutor. I was trained to cake decorate and make pastries in a professional bakery and have continued that hobby in my free time.
I believe all children can be excited about learning, as soon as they find their own passions and interests and have a teacher who encourages inquiry and open ended question asking! One of the most essential things a teacher can do to inspire learning is to get to know each learner as an individual and help them make connections to their own life.
Some of my personal interests are baking and candy making, Mount Everest and other 8000 meter peaks, and children's literature. I collect copies of The Night Before Christmas!
Thanks for taking the time to get to know me, I look forward to seeing you in the classroom soon!
