Class Experience

Hey everyone! In this class I am going to walk you through making a paper squishy of a cute milk carton. I will provide a template for you to print and color in, but a template is not neessary to make one of these. Paper squishies are fun and easy to make and make great fidget toys to help calm and relax you. They can also be used as a cute little gift box!

Class structure:
1. Introductions! - Tell us your name and where you're from. Feel free to say "pass" if you don't feel comfortable speaking :)
2. Introduce the materials
3. Begin to draw and color! (Have your templates ready if you plan to use one!)
4. "Laminate" the squishy with packing tape
5. Stuff the squishy then seal with tape (if you are making it into a gift box, you can skip this step!)
6. SQUISH the squishy!
7. Show off our creations.
8. Extra time to work and ask questions
9. Goodbyes <3

Hi, everyone!

My name is Alicia, but you can call me Miss Ally! I am a certified K-12 art teacher with a BA in Studio Art from the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. I have been teaching art for 8+ years now and I am excited to bring my passion to a new online platform!

I spent two years studying media arts and animation at the Art Institute of Tampa when I realized that I have passion for teaching. I transfered to the University of South Florida where I got my Bahcelors of Art in Studio Art and I spent years practicing my skills to teach with programs such as AmeriCorps, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Museum of Science and Industry. I then taught English in South Korea for 6 months. I taught art in public school for 7 years and I am now making the transition to become fully online!

As an art teacher, my philosphy is that the best way for children to learn about art is to MAKE art. I want my students to be real artists. I don't focus on memorization of terms or completion of worksheets or book work. For my students, I want them to make something. Children learn best when they use their hands and they can actually build, make, create, and play.

I plan to make all of my classes on Outschool focus on art, DIY, and creativity. I also consider myself something the kids call a "weeb". Basically, someone who loves all things anime! I love to draw anime and watch it and I hope to create some classes focused on that as well. I am also a HUGE Nintendo nerd, so I hope to also make a few classes focused on things like Animal Crossing, the Legend of Zelda, Mario and Yoshi, and so on.

I'm new here to Outschool, but I am really looking forward to creating a fun online art class for everyone. See ya soon!
