In this one time group class children wil create their own colour tissue paper lantern. This is a lovely simple activity enjoyed by children of all ages . Children will be introduced to special times of using lanterns eg Chinese New Year and be shown a picture online Children will need to find some old jars and coloured tissue paper on a table ,cutting it into different shaped strips .Or instead of cutting them they may prefer to rip the paper into small pieces . Children can cut rectangular shapes, squares, even cut out stars and circles. Teacher will demonstrate these shapes. They will take a glue stick and smear glue all over the outer jar, then taking the tissue pieces stick them over the jar .When the tissue paper overlaps it creates darker colours .. Then they will leave this to dry after the lesson. Children will be encouraged to use votive battery candles and be shown like by teachers. They can also if they wish add a pipe cleaner around the rim for a handle and be guided by teacher on a slide show how to do this simple craft activity step by step. These make perfect gifts and home accessory to light up the night and also lovely mothers day or valentines gifts with a cut out out heart on on pale pink and white colours. Music will be played in the background and we will talk about special days and what children usually do eg for mothers day, etc. We will also talk which countries they come from and what they celebrate
