Class Experience

In this one-time class we'll learn how to make biscotti, a classic Italian treat. We'll discuss the origin of its name and possible variations on this basic recipe.

Learners will follow along as I take them step by step through the recipe, demonstrating and providing detailed explanation as we go. I will ask questions to encourage critical thinking throughout the class as well as answer any questions that arise.

In addition to practicing important culinary skills, I deeply value and encourage creativity in all my classes and give ample opportunities for learners to express themselves and explore through food.

Studies have shown that kids are more likely to try new foods and become more adventurous eaters if they are actively involved in preparing the food they eat. The purpose of this class is to not only teach helpful cooking skills that kids will need later in life but to also make cooking a fun and positive experience. This will promote autonomy and confidence in the kitchen and a willingness to try new things. Let's get cooking!

Parental Guidance
While many cooking skills can be taught through online instruction, parents/guardians are best to determine their child's comfort and skill in the kitchen. My goal is to build upon what they already know...safely. If you have any questions about whether your child's skill level is appropriate for a particular class, don't hesitate to reach out. *This recipe requires the use of an oven and a knife (a dough/bench scraper may also be used). Parental guidance is suggested for these portions of the class. *As you will be responsible for providing ingredients for this class, please be sure to check all food label ingredients for potential allergens.
Supply List
I will post the ingredient/supply list in the classroom the Friday before class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi there! I'm Priscilla, a former public school teacher and kids cooking instructor with over 20 years of experience in education and instruction.

I teach classes about food and cooking!

I believe kids learn best through authentic experiences, using their senses and natural curiosity to drive exploration. I've seen first hand with my students and my own child how including kids in every day kitchen activities fosters a lifelong love and appreciation for food and cooking.

I also believe that learning should be FUN in order for it to be most effective. In my classes, we go beyond skills and drills with games, stories, taste tests and plenty of opportunities for creative expression. A belly full of freshly prepared food at the end of class doesn't hurt either!

When I'm not teaching, I'm puttering around the kitchen, experimenting with new recipes or ideas or spending time outdoors with my family.
