Let's Make Bento - Japanese Lunch Box!

Class
Wa-Shokuiku
Average rating:4.8Number of reviews:(182)
In this class, students will learn how to cook a tasty, colorful and healthy bento, a Japanese lunch box. This class introduces Japanese cooking, culture and nutrition information.

Class experience

The class starts off with a fun and educational slide presentation introducing Japan, the Japanese lunchbox, and sensibilities as well as simple nutrition concepts. Children will mold rice balls with cute features, create edible creatures, measure ingredients, and attractively arrange all the contents to fit into a container (or bento box). Students will learn what good portion size is for the age group, and the value of eye appeal.

Our teachers have been trained in the Wa-Shokuiku program material and have delivered these classes to hundreds of children over the past 3 years. Please be sure to let us know of any food allergies. You are choosing the food for your children so please be aware that you can make substitutes where appropriate.

We are making more rice than you will need for this class, but we are hoping that your son or daughter would like to practice and make rice balls for other family members. 3. We will be cooking the hotdog and rolled egg omelet in class, so please have an adult or someone supervising the use of the stove during the class. *Recipes will be provided.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents with young children are encouraged to assist their child in tasks like cutting and boiling water. When cooking with a stove and/or a knife is required, students with adult supervision can complete the cooking either during the class or after the class has ended. When a recipe calls for the use of a stove, students under the age of 12 need to have an adult on the premises. If the parent or guardian does not plan on being on the premises, please send us a message. Please note that the class duration may extend depending on how the cooking progresses.
