Let's Make a Bead Buddy: The Adorable Axolotl
Class experience
In this multi-day class learners will create an adorable axolotl bead buddy using the colors of their choosing! I will demonstrate and describe each step. Along the way I will sprinkle in axolotl information and trivia questions. During week 1 we will build the head while discussing gills, eyesight, and feeding habits. On week 2 we will complete the body while touching on regeneration, coloration, and body structure. Leaners will be given multiple views of the creation process and pattern,...
This class is taught in English.
Learners will create a bead axolotl while discussing their characteristics and amazing adaptations.
When I was a kid I loved making bead animals. As a camp teacher I taught a variety of different patterns, often connecting them to local wildlife. For this class I designed a bead buddy with real life axolotls in mind. I’m so excited to teach Outschool learners my special skill and all about these amazing amphibians.
1 file available upon enrollmentAll learners will need the following supplies. You will have some beads left over at the end. This is to make sure we have enough of each color, even if some roll away. You can choose any color beads and boondoggle to create this craft. Just make sure you have enough of each color group. Your Work Station: A clear flat surface either on a desk or on the floor 3 small bowls (1 x bead color - Make sure they don't knock over easily) 1 small plate, shallow bowl, or flat plastic lid with a lip. (Something to hold beads after they have been counted.) Supplies: 9 Feet of Boondoggle - Please precut this length before class begins. 1 Key Ring or Clip 100 Body Beads 40 Gill Beads 26 Belly Beads 4 Eye Beads In my examples and pattern I used light pink boondoggle, light pink beads for the body, dark pink beads for the gills, white beads for the belly, and black beads for the eyes.
Creating bead animals is a fun and engaging activity, but can be difficult for some children to get the hang of at first. Parents are welcome to provide support as necessary. I just ask that they do so off camera.
Greeting Outschool Families! My name is Alyssa Rose, but you and your young learner can call me Rosie! I recently completed a master's degree program in teaching the biological sciences and am an environmental educator in the state of New York....
