Homework

1-2 hours per week. Optional homework will be included after each session. While the homework is optional, it is recommended as it is designed to reinforce what the student is learning and provide additional practice.

Assessment

Every few weeks, our classes will include an assessment of the student's progress so far.

Progress Report

A progress report summarizing the learner's progress so far will be offered periodically.

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2

Beginner - Advanced Level

Let's learn to read! In these one-on-one tutoring sessions, your learner will learn and review letter names, letter sounds, phonological awareness skills, blending and segment words, high frequency words, and so much more. Each lesson will be personally tailored to suit your learner's unique learning needs. Our tutoring sessions will include direct instruction, games and activities to reinforce and review, decodable readers, and optional homework and bonus resources to provide additional enrichment and reinforcement for your learner. Each lesson is interactive and engaging and includes a variety of methods such as flashcards, slides, whiteboard, games, and reading together.

Learning Goals

You learner will master the letter names and sounds.

Your learner will develop a solid grasp of phonemic and phonological awareness, including both rhyming and syllable awareness and blending, segmenting, deleting, and substituting sounds.

Supply List

Learners will need access to a printer, a 3 ring binder, paper, pencils, and art supplies such as crayons or markers. Parents will be informed of any additional supplies at least a week in advance.

My first experience tutoring in reading was as a senior in high school to elementary aged students. Seeing them learn and succeed instilled in me a passion for teaching and tutoring. I have since then continued to teach and tutor privately, both in person and online. I have also taught in private schools where I have worked with teaching students to read. Now it is my delight to teach my own children at home how to read.
