For young readers, there is arguably no better way to improve early reading skills than Guided Reading. In this class, I will use resources from Reading A-Z to improve each child's oral reading fluency, word decoding skills, comprehension and reading habits. These books are appropriate for children in guided reading levels H, I, and J depending on their ability and progress. Each meeting will have the following schedule: Welcome (2 minutes) - Students will say hello to peers and make sure...
Students will develop reading skills that include fluency, word decoding, comprehension, and reading habits.
I hold a California Teaching Credential and I have training in Fountas and Pinnell style Guided Reading. I have used Reading A-Z materials for many years.
Optional Bonus Classroom Activities: 1. The students are invited to record a video of themselves reading the text taught in class and post it in the classroom. The teacher will leave a video comment in response! 2. The students may be provided worksheets to complete to further enhance the concepts taught during class. Students are encouraged to upload finished worksheets, and the teacher will leave a video comment in response!
Students should always bring a pencil and paper to class. Students will be provided with the leveled book to print out before class. Please print this so the student has adequate time to read aloud during and after class.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
No formal assessment is given. Grades can be provided with advanced request from the parent.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
We will utilize texts, worksheets, and lessons plans from Reading A-Z. They have granted permission to use these materials.
