US Grade 1 - 4
In this flex class, learners will explore a range of Science subjects in a fun and interactive way. This course aims to provide meaningful learning experiences for young explorers. Each week will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week 1 - How is tomato sauce made? Week 2 - How does a piano work? Week 3 - How do beavers build dams? Week 4 - How does an escalator work? Week 5 - How does popcorn pop? Week 6 - How is yoghurt made? Classes will include all elements of STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. These are all areas of learning that our kids need to be comfortable with to excel in the future. STEM makes creators, thinkers, problem solvers, doers, innovators, and inventors. Please note, there will be reading and writing tasks in some classes. There will also be maths challenges that suit the theme of the week. Please do check the whole description when choosing this course for your learner. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. A flex course allows learners to cover material during a time that is convenient for them each week. Students are encouraged to check in with the teacher weekly via the Outschool classroom, which will allow for more engagement between the teacher and learner. After weekly lessons, students can collaborate with their peers by replying to the announcements and lesson postings in the Outschool classroom. Participation will include the Introduction post, discussion posts, assignments, and projects in the Classroom. This allows students to process what they are learning by collaborating with peers and the teacher. Participation in assignments allows students to practise and reinforce learning. This also provides opportunities for the teacher to gauge student learning and provide interventions if necessary. Private messages or classroom comments are usually responded to within 24 hours with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays. The videos will be available for the length of the course. This course is taught by Teacher Shellan. We look forward to being part of your learning journey! Please contact us with further questions.
