Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
In my early years, I had established an after school music program at an Elementary School in Chicago. During this time, I worked with children through a casual classroom environment (10-15 kids per class) on the basics of general music theory, reading musical notation and familiarizing each student with the instruments provided. With taking in children as young as eight and as old as fourteen, I worked with all the students to assure they internalize the material, encourage one another and most importantly have fun. I also had a chance to arrange music myself for my classroom to show off during their yearly recital! It was a blast.
The following years, I became really involved with helping different Churches. At first, I started on any instrument they needed me on for worship every Sunday, transformed into parents of the church approaching me to ask about lessons. Slowly I began giving private lessons on piano to one child while introducing drums to another. Soon enough, my students had become proficient enough in where they asked me to help them create a youth worship team. So I did. To be honest, this experience was extremely fun! I love teaching in an ensemble- that's where the magic happens!
At about the same time I was helping with different churches, I also began teaching private lessons in suburb nearby at a lovely little mom-and-pop establishment called Boocoo Cultural Center. Here I had the pleasure of teaching children and having some one on one music lessons; I taught children as young as four years old and as old as fifteen.
As my teaching career began to flourish and development, I was simultaneously freelancing around the city and performing in an array of settings. This includes, but is not limited to: traveling and perfuming with Second City- during my time with Second City, I had the opportunity to tour and even travel on a cruise ship for four months performing Second City’s greatest hits to thousands of people around the world. Aside from that, I began to circulate in Chicago’s musical theater scene; becoming involved on such productions as “RENT”, “Hairspray”, “Bridges of Madison”, “West-Side Story” and even “Hamilton”. I also hold the honor of sharing the stage with such modest celebrities as Joan Osborne, Jay Leno and Kevin Eubanks.
Since then, I have been focused on developing myself with my career, music and cooking! (i LOVE cooking).
