In this fun, action-packed language arts class, students will learn sight words, phonics, and literature in an energetic and creative way. Statistics show that combining sight words with phonics instruction increases a child's speed and fluency in reading. This class will combine learning sight words with basic phonics instruction of CVC words, as well as introduce classic literature. I have always believed that if you can teach a child to read, you teach a child to learn anything. Growing up, reading has always been one of my favorite pastimes and I have kept my love for reading throughout my adulthood. I have homeschooled my daughters for 15 years, and taught them both to read through both phonics instruction and sight word instruction (combined with lots of fun and loads of praise!) I am TESOL certified, and have also worked in several pre-k settings over the years, helping young learners to begin reading with fluency. I can’t wait to share my joy for helping your students learn to read!
A list of weekly sight words to learn and practice will be posted for each class. Some weeks I may also provide practice worksheets to be printed and used during class time. Always be sure to have your student bring writing paper, a pencil, and crayons to practice writing along and for drawing and coloring during art time.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
