In this interactive, phonemic awareness class, learners will play a fun, listening game, look at objects and their initial sounds and take part in a fine motor activity based on Fall. Letter sounds, listening skills & art all in one class!

Class Experience

In this class, learners will enjoy a fantastic autumn sounds phonics game where children will have to use their listening skills to identify sounds in the environment. 

Level/phase 1 phonics is usually introduced in nursery / pre-school but the skills will carry through the first few years of school. Children will develop their listening and communication skills, including vocabulary, to prepare them for reading and writing.

In this one-time class learners will work on level / phase 1 phonics, which is usually introduced in nursery / pre-school but the skills will carry through the first few years of school. Children will develop their listening and communication skills, including vocabulary, to prepare them for reading and writing. 

Curriculum area: English: level 1

I am a Qualified Primary Teacher from England with over 20 years of experience teaching phonics, reading and literacy to children aged 4 to 7 years. I have been a Nursery Assistant, Classroom Teacher, Online Tutor and a mentor to work-experience students, new Teachers and Teaching Assistants. I am a successful coach, helping people become online ESL teachers, sharing my wealth of knowledge, and sharing my top tips. I also have experience of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to learners online. I have experience in being a Mum and teaching my own children to read. I understand that all children learn differently, and I love to get to know my learners likes and dislikes and plan lessons that thoroughly engage them. I am patient and kind and make all my lessons fun and interactive.

I will attach free activities for learners to complete at home. This is optional but it will help to reinforce the learning objectives from the class.

Pencils/crayons/markers OR bingo dappers OR paint OR pom-poms to decorate the learners autumn 'do a dot' activity (see attachment upon enrolment)

Optional: The learners can show autumn / fall objects – if they want, or a toy  e.g. a cuddly squirrel toy or similar, if discussing autumn. 

I will supply all activity sheets and supporting material needed for the class (please see attachments) and these will be made by me or Twinkl.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
