This course is designed to provide learners with an opportunity to learn the game of American Football at the basic level. In this class, students will learn about the different offensive and defensive positions, and what their basic functions are. We will explore the world of offensive and defensive formations, as well as some introductory rules that make understanding the game easier. Class is a 4-week course that meets once a week and is a remote, online course. Class is taught through guided instruction, teacher demonstration and student performance. There are no required prerequisites for this course, however, because this is an cumulative class, it is recommended thar students bring a notebook and writing utensil for notes. Week 1: What is American Football? Are there different levels of the sport? Week 2: Offensive/Defensive/Special Teams Positions and Functions. Week 3: Basic Rules and Regulations of Gameplay Week 4: Introduction to common offensive and defensive positions.
Learning Goals
Upon completion of this block of instruction, student will be able to:
1. Identify the different positions on a football field.
2. Identify basic rules, formations and plays of American Football.

Teacher expertise and credentials
A football coach in the state of NM for over 10 years, I currently hold certification in Fundamentals Of Coaching from the National Federation of State High Schools as well as an Athletic Coach licensure from the New Mexico Public Education Department. I currently serve as the Strength and Conditioning Coach for a local high school football team in New Mexico.
