Let’s Learn English: One-On-One, Private ESL-EFL-ESOL Tutoring

This is a great class for learners who are looking to strengthen their basic English skills and want to continue to advance their fluency with the language. Specific lesson plans are tailored to each learner and may take a few classes to fully determine and refine. Activities include conversation, short grammar lessons, and reading passages to encompass the four main domains of speaking, listening, reading, and writing. I focus on CEFR levels B1-B2-C1, but I also work with A2-level learners who are learning letter sounds/phonics, sight words, numbers, and basic grammar structure. Even many B1 learners still need more help with these foundational skills. I also welcome more advanced learners who need to understand more involved sentence structures and other conventions, read longer passages or do a novel study, and have deeper conversations with higher-level thinking skills. Pronunciation and proper mouth formation are always taught and corrected throughout!

 My goal is to help learners sound more fluent overall and feel comfortable using English overall.

Learners should have a basic understanding of an online classroom so they will be able to annotate on screen, as well as click buttons to participate in game activities related to the lesson (when given remote control). Learning will be interactive and further reinforced using visual props like photos, realia, books, and movement with physical response (TPR) as needed.

In my over 5 years of experience teaching English language skills to thousands of young learners, I find it very important to keep my classroom very calm and easy-going so that they feel comfortable trying things that may be more challenging and making mistakes along the way. It's all part of the process! I take pride in my patience and encouragement. We will talk about meaningful topics that relate to their lives. We will celebrate their success and achievements!

*This is not a tutoring class for English language arts studies, but an English language learning class for those whose first language is NOT English. 

*I use the Crystal Clear curriculum to structure my lessons with vocabulary and grammar conventions. Reading passages will come from these lessons and potentially short, popular reading series’. We will also play some online games. 

*Prior to the first lesson, I will send out a short questionnaire to better understand your learner’s level of understanding and speaking English. Please take a few moments to fill this out to better prepare for our class. After completion of the first few classes, we can assess if this is an appropriate fit for your learner and their goals to learn English.
