What is a Spelling Bee? A Spelling Bee is a competition in which contestants are asked to spell a broad selection of words, usually with a varying degree of difficulty. Week of 23/9/24 - Silent letters Week of 30/9/24 - Silent letters Week of 7/10/24 - Compound words Week of 14/10/24 - Spelling patterns and the -y rule Week of 21/10/24 - Spelling patterns Week of 28/10/24 - Words with -ough Our Spelling Bee Rules πΉA Spelling Bee is normally a knock-out competition. We want learners to participate throughout the class so no-one will be knocked out in our class. πΉClasses will contain practice of the words initially before the spelling bee element. πΉA list of the words for the week will be shared to the classroom at 7pm PST on Sundays each week. Learners are encouraged to practise the words and be familiar with them. πΉDuring the spelling bee element of the class, the teacher will name the student, say the word for them to spell and then give them time to spell it. Don't rush! You have time to spell your word. πΉThere will be a challenge element of each class where words on the same theme are spelt but learners have not had time to practise these. πΉWe want all our classes to have a 'can do' atmosphere to them. So there will be a healthy amount of competition and challenge in these classes. Please note this is Spelling Bee Club 1. We also offer the Spelling Bee Clubs at other levels. This is an ongoing course so learners can join at any points. We look forward to being part of your learning journey.
