Description
Class Experience
***PLEASE NOTE: This is a six-week class, but is scheduled for seven weeks. No work will be posted the week of April 2-8, 2023.*** Whether your child is a proficient reader and great at spelling or a struggling reader who has difficulty with spelling, this class will help reinforce what they know and support them on their learning journey. This course targets a different second grade spelling pattern each week with fun activities in weekly videos and optional supplementary activities...
Students will learn and practice second grade spelling words.
I have a Master of Education degree in Elementary Education and taught in primary (1st-3rd grade) classrooms for six years. I have an ESL endorsement and have more than five years of experience teaching online classes for kids.
Students will have weekly videos to watch, dictation sentences to write, an interactive Google Slides activity with fill in the blank sentences to check for comprehension of the meaning of the words, and a spelling test.
- Paper and pencil - Weekly spelling sheet (posted in the Outschool classroom) - A folder or notebook to store weekly work (optional)
Students may take a weekly spelling test and/or play a Kahoot game to assess their learning.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
- YouTube: YouTube video links for the introduction, dictation sentences, and spelling test videos are shared in Classroom Posts. Outschool embeds these links on its platform so that learners remain on the Outschool platform and don’t access the YouTube website. - Flipgrid: Once a week, the teacher posts a getting-to-know-you question in Classroom Posts to enhance the class's sense of community. Students may either respond with a written reply, record a video on the Outschool page to share their response, or record a video on our class Flipgrid page. The teacher will share the Guest password for each Flipgrid topic so an account is not required. - Kahoot!: The teacher creates a Kahoot! spelling game and shares the link each week in Classroom Posts. An account is not required to use this resource and students do not need to use their real names when playing the Kahoot! game.
