Let's Keep Engineering: Algebra for the Real World - SP
As an engineer, I use math all of the time. Algebra is critical to both work and life, but it doesn't have to be confusing. This class seeks to knock the dust off those algebra skills, or lay the bedrock for great understanding!

1 hour per week. Optional homework will be given. I will review the homework if it is completed and submitted. The homework will provide further practice for the topics discussed in class.Assessment
I will provide feedback for learners that complete and submit homework. I will aim to capture strengths, weaknesses, and areas of improvement in the assessment.Class Experience
US Grade 7 - 10
Beginner Level
Course Objectives: • Increase comprehension and deepen understanding of algebra topics (see syllabus). • Work through examples to solidify key concepts. • Learn that math is SUPER USEFUL (and have fun doing it)! I will utilize a power point presentation to structure the progress and flow through each class. The power point will aid in teaching and reviewing algebra topics (as outlined in the syllabus). I may occasionally use the Zoom whiteboard to draw or generally show algebra topics using my own handwriting. My teaching style is open and conversational. I care more about the students learning than hearing my own voice. As such, there may be breaks in the teaching for clarifying questions or going deeper into a topic. The question and answer time at the end of the lesson is a dedicated time for learners to address what they need to fully grasp the material. I will take feedback throughout on what parts of the course need more time, which need less time, and how I can improve the learning experience. All feedback is good feedback, from both parents and learners alike!
Learning Goals
- Be able to solve equations for a given variable.
- Formulate an equation from a word problem, and solve for the answer.
- Graph an equation onto an X-Y Cartesian Plane.
- Learn that complex problems aren't scary, just longer versions of a short problem.
