US Grade 4 - 7
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue is home to one of the most recognized homes in the U.S.- the White House. I had the pleasure of touring this amazing historic house as a teacher, with 8th grade students, in 2013- and Secret Service members gave us awesome insight that I'll share with you! The listing says 9-14, but all who are interested are welcome! In this class, students will be guided through a virtual tour of the inside public rooms of the White House while learning about the history of the famous house and fun facts about it. We will also explore and other areas of the White House that are not available to the public. This class will be structured so that students are encouraged to discuss the information as it is presented. They are also encouraged to point our things in rooms that they want to learn more about and/or zoom into. The teacher will pose optional questions as the information is presented, to encourage students to made connections between the artifacts and historic events. Students are encouraged to ask questions, if needed. A positive class culture is a must, so I prefer learners to take turns when participating and to treat each other respectfully. I am an inclusive teacher who values all of my learners!
Learning Goals
-Students will explore and discuss various rooms and artifacts in the White House.
-Students will gain an understanding of the history behind building the White House as well as major additions and renovations.
